Rumor: HTC M7 to feature on-screen buttons, set to debut at CES

The HTC M7 is expected to be the device which returns HTC to its former glory. The first time we heard about the phone was when news broke that HTC was sourcing enough components from its suppliers to build 4 to 5 million HTC M7s in the first quarter of 2013. While HTC typically waits until Mobile World Congress to unveil its flagship device, the latest rumor that’s floating around the web claims that HTC will be unveiling the M7 next week at CES and that the device will feature on-screen buttons.

By some indirect information M7 might be announced on CES event. Moreover it might have screen buttons instead of hardware touch buttons...@football4pda

If the rumor turns out to be true, it’ll be the first time that HTC debuts a global phone at CES. But we have our doubts. Currently, HTC does not have a press event scheduled for the week of CES and the company doesn’t have a booth on the show floor. If we were planning to launch a new flagship Android phone at CES, those would be two standard requirements if we wanted to give the phone the exposure it deserves.

We expect HTC will hold off on announcing the HTC M7 for a little while longer. If HTC is still planning on bringing the phone to market in Q1, HTC has more than enough time to schedule its own event sometime between CES and MWC which would maximize media coverage without the distractions which accompany the major trade shows. We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Rumor: HTC One XXL to be like One XL, but with quad-core Krait

Android users have become power-hungry - dual-core processors no longer cut it. If you're among that crowd, this next rumor should give you a twitch of excitement - an HTC One XXL with two extra cores than the XL, better graphics and more RAM.

A couple of leaked screenshots show some of the specs of this purported beast - a 4.7" 720p screen, 8MP main and 1.8MP secondary cameras and a codename, "Closurexxl".

The chipset specs of the One XXL are more interesting though - a quad-core processor (reportedly a Snapdragon S4 with Krait cores), 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 320 GPU plus LTE connectivity.

One chipset matches the description - the Qualcomm APQ8064. There's an old rumor of the HTC Zeta with that chipset and roughly similar specs, but that's from before the HTC One series came to be.

Rumor: Nexus 7 tablet pictured in press images

Phone Arena was just sent alleged press images of the upcoming ASUS-Google Nexus 7 tablet. If the images are real, the Nexus 7 will be a three-toned tablet, with a white front to the tablet and a two-toned black and gray backplate. I’m not quite sold on the three-tone look, so here’s hoping the Nexus 7 will come in two color schemes (white and black/gray) similar to other Android tablets. Sources for Phone Arena confirmed that the device will in fact feature a Tegra 3 processor, and that the tablet would launch with Android 4.1, commonly believed to be the launch version number for Jelly Bean.

From the press shots, we noticed that the Nexus Tablet features a speaker on the front of the device, a common placement for speakers on phones as opposed to tablets, where speakers are normally located on tablets. This speaker location leads us to believe that the Nexus Tablet will likely be able to make phone calls using Google Voice or other VOIP services. If not, having a speaker on the front of the device still makes sense to us, as it tends to result in better sound output.

We should be learning more about the Nexus Tablet at Google I/O at the end of this month, with a widespread launch slated for July. The Nexus Tablet is expected to retail in the $150-$250 range to take on the Kindle Fire and a rumored 7? iPad that could be launching later this year. Stay tuned for updates.
