Powerful HTC phone for Verizon leaks, GLBenchmark confirms

HTC is obviously working on an immensely powerful smartphone. At least that's what the website of the popular GLBenchmark tool suggests.

Planned to launch on the Verizon network, the unannounced smartphone has a model number HTC6435, which seems to be a follow-up of the Rezound (HTC6425). What's more intriguing to us is what exactly does this baby have under the hood.

According to GLBenchmark, the HTC6435 is powered by a 1.5GHz processor, probably not the Snapdragon S4 that the One X boasts. Moreover, it has topped the S4 chipset with more than 110 FPS in the Egypt Offscreen and Pro 720p tests .

The tested device supposedly has a resolution of 1794?1080, which means it'll rock a 1080p display with room to spare for some onboard software buttons. And that is another first for HTC.

In order to achieve those incredible results, this mysterious HTC phone should be seriously rigged with top-of-the-shelf hardware. The Qualcomm MSM8960T chipset with the Adreno 320 GPU comes to mind but anything is possible.

Currently the leaked info shows it's running Android 4.0.4, but Jelly Bean might not be that far.

HTC Support confirms HTC Rezound Android 4.0 update coming before the end of July

By now, many of you are already looking forward to the Android 4.1 update for your device – but let’s not forget that there are quite a few people still craving for a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Verizon’s HTC Rezound owners are among those who still have not received the Android 4.0 update which was promised to them even before the handset hit the market last fall.

After a few misguided hopes  of getting the update earlier in the year, it looks like HTC will be keeping its word by rolling out the Android 4.0 update before the end of July. The latest confirmation comes from HTC support, responding to an email from a concerned HTC Rezound owner.

The ICS (Android 4.0) update will be released for the Rezound by the end of this month (July) with final pushes in August. HTC

Android activations now over 900,000 per day, Rubin confirms

An interesting rumor was doing the rounds on the web yesterday, saying that Andy Rubin might be leaving Google and focusing on a startup company. The man himself quickly stepped up to refute it, bringing an update on the Android daily activations count in the process.
According to Rubin, he is only providing free office space to the mentioned startup and has no plans to join it now or at any point in the future. As for the more interesting bit - Rubin bragged that Android is now getting over 900,000 daily activations, which represents an increase of more than 50,000 compared to the 850,000 number quoted at the last Mobile World Congress back in February.
The number has undoubtedly been boosted by the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III, which has become a huge success in Europe and they get another bump, when the new Samsung flagship lands in the US later this month. The HTC One lineup has also helped the growth, even if it failed to meet its ambitious targets.

The 900,000 activations per day add up to nearly 28 million droids sold every month or just over 10 every second. And as we know, each phone is only counted once, so in the time it took you to read this article about 250 people purchased a shiny new Android smartphone.
