Huawei quietly showcases WP8-running Ascend W1 at CES

Yesterday Huawei held a press event at CES and announced the Android flagship Ascend D2 and the phablet Ascend Mate. The earlier rumors suggested a WP8-running Ascend W1 joining them on stage, but for some reason that didn?t happen.

As it turns out though, the Ascend W1 was at the press conference after all, even if it still hasn't been properly introduced.

The Ascend W1 is a mid-range device based on the Qualcomm's MSM8230 Snapdragon S4 chipset with a 1.2GHz dual-core Krait processor, Adreno 305 graphics and 512MB of RAM.

The W1 packs a 4-inch WVGA TFT display, a 5MP snapper with 720p video recording, a 0.3MP front-facing camera, 4 gigs of internal storage expandable via a microSD slot. The connectivity department offers HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC.

Its battery is not as impressive as the D2 or Mate, though, having a capacity of just 1950 mAh. Given the size difference it's still a decent achievement, though.

There is no info on the pricing and the availability of the Huawei Ascend W1, but we guess China will be the first country to get it in a month or two.

Huawei Ascend W1 now official, company's first WP8 device

Huawei looks keen on keeping CES 2013 interesting and is making another announcement in the first day of the show. The company has just unveiled ts first Windows Phone 8 smartphone called Ascend W1.

The Ascend W1 brings a reasonable array of features and should come with a pretty attractive price tag. It's build around a 4" WVGA (480 x 800) IPS LCD and has a profile 10.5 mm thick. A dual-core 1.2 GHz Krait processor and the Adreno 305 GPU power the whole thing while a 5 MP camera with 720p video recording takes care of photography needs.

The 4" screen uses full lamination technology that should help enhance outdoor visibility.

The Huawei Ascend W1 will hit China and Russia this month while Western Europe, Middle East and USA should be expecting it next. The price isn't clear as of now but it should be along the lines of the HTC Windows Phone 8S or lower.

Huawei bragged about the W1 extra long battery life, claiming a 470 hour stand-by. The Ascend W1 utilizes a power saving technology that saves 30% power consumption, letting the 1950 mAh battery last longer than it normally should.

The Huawei Ascend W1 will be available in blue, red, black and white. We cannot overlook the resemblance between the Ascend W1 and recent offerings by HTC but colorful and fresh seems to be the Windows Phone 8 thing these days.

Here's the official product page.

Huawei Ascend G330 leaks, said to come with ICS on board

It's been a while since we last saw a new handset by Huawei. The manufacturer has made a name for itself on may markets with well-positioned mid-range smartphones with affordable price tags.
As it seems, the case with the Huawei Ascend G330 is pretty much the same. It's a mid-range droid that will, reportedly, bring all the benefits of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform.

Huawei Ascend G330
As on many other occasions, the Chinese version of the US FCC has leaked the unannounced smartphone. The Chinese market will see the G330 in variants with HSPA (China Unicom) and CDMA (China Telecom) connectivity. In the rest of the world, the G330 will probably be available as a 3G HSPA device.
The Huawei Ascend G330 will have a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. There's a 5MP camera, a front-facing snapper too, and 4 gigs worth of in-built storage. The whole thing would run on Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8225 chipset, sporting a 1GHz dual-core Cortex-A5 CPU and 512MB of RAM. Local connectivity will be entrusted to Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.
Most importantly however, the whole package will have of Android Ice Cream Sandwich as its OS of choice.
The Ascend G330 should measure 122.5 x 62.6 x 11.2mm and weigh 140 g. These numbers are far from impressive but we are yet to hear about the pricing of the smartphones. We guess it would be reasonable as usual.

Huawei unveils Ascend P1 TD- SCDMA and 2600mAh XL droids

Huawei used the start of the Mobile Asia Expo to announce the two latest additions to its lineup of Android smartphones. The Huawei Ascend P1 TD-SCDMA and Ascend P1 2600mAh are modified versions of the international P1 heading for China with a different 3G radio and a larger battery.

As the name suggests, the Huawei Ascend P1 TD-SCDMA swaps the WCDMA connectivity for the TD-SCDMA 3G radio, which is better suited to the third generation networks in China. The smartphone will go on sale in China by the end of June.

The Huawei Ascend P1 2600 mAh XL (or simply Ascend P1 XL) slaps a huge battery to the slender figure of the P1. Huawei chose not to reveal the dimensions of the new smartphone, but we guess the extra capacity added a millimeter or two. We guess we'll have to wait until Q3 when the Ascend P1 XL will be available for sale in China to find out.

Huawei also confirmed that it will be launching the Ascend D1 in China in the near future, with other markets to follow shortly after. The market release of the quad-core Ascend D quad is only said to happen in the second half of the year though. We are still in the dark regarding the availability of the quad-core MediPad 10 FHD tablet with 1080p screen, which will also be exhibited at the Mobile Asia Expo.
