Nokia says Google Nexus 7 tablet infringes its patents

It appears that the patent wars between smartphone manufacturers are far from over as virtually every new device is said to infringe on someone else's patents now. And it appears that we are going to have a new big player involved as Nokia just officially accused ASUS of using its patents with Google Nexus 7 tablet without license.

The patents in question refer to the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standard, which the Nexus 7 supports. Nokia said that it has licensed said patents to 40 licenses mobile device manufacturers, but neither Google nor ASUS are on the list.

However, Nokia won't have as aggressive approach as Apple and is unlikely to file a case against Asus. Instead, the company has kindly invited Asus and Google to sign up for a license.

We'll be following ASUS and Google's response and see if this could turn up to be the next big court case against the Nexus devices.

The Nexus Tablet has reportedly started shipping, lacks 3G or LTE

Google I/O 2012 is fast approaching and reports are starting to emerge on what the company might be announcing. The latest report comes from DigiTimes and cites sources from upstream component makers.

According to them, the Nexus tablet will lack 3G or LTE connectivity as well as a rear camera to keep a low price tag. The recent leak of a photo taken with the tablet and uploaded to Picasa further confirms this report. As a result, the Nexus tablet will probably only feature a front-facing camera and Wi-Fi connectivity.

They also claim that the 7-inch, quad-core Tegra 3 Nexus tablet has already started shipping and will be available in the retail channels in July. At least 3 million units are expected to be shipped by the second half of the year.

It's firmly believed that ASUS have manufactured the tablet and the company's chairman Jonney Shih will also attend the Google I/O event to jointly make the announcement. Furthermore, according to DigiTimes' sources, later in the summer ASUS will be releasing its own 7-inch tablet in the $159-179 price range.

Whether those reports are true will likely be established on June 27, when Google will give the start of its annual I/O Developer's Conference.

Confirmed: ASUS Nexus 7 tablet coming at the end of June

In case you were still skeptical about the Nexus Tablet making its appearance at Google I/O this month, yet another rumored ASUS source has confirmed the imminent launch of the oft-fabled tablet. An ASUS rep at Computex told Android Authority will indeed make its debut appearance at Google I/O at the end of the month.

Our own sources told us back in March that ASUS was selected as the manufacturing partner for the Nexus Tablet, and that the tablet would include the powerful Tegra 3 processor. We also learned from sources that the target pricing for the Nexus Tablet was $149-$199, with Google aiming to bring the Nexus Tablet into as many pockets as possible. With production rumored at about 600,000 tablets produced by the end of June, it became fairly obvious that Google’s I/O developer conference was going to be showcasing the device.

Rejoice, Android fans, Google’s Nexus Tablet is real, will be made by ASUS, and will be unveiled at the end of June at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Lamborghini to launch luxury phones and tablet in Russia

Lamborghini has announced their new range of luxury phones and tablet for the Russian market.

The first of the bunch (above) is a simple feature phone called the TL688 Spyder that has a 2-inch QVGA display, 3 megapixel camera with video recording, front facing camera, 4GB internal memory and

GPRS/EDGE connectivity. Being a luxury phone, however, it has a hand-made leather body and a leather back. It also has a rather unique shape that looks more like a TV remote than a regular phone.

The second one (above) is also a feature phone called TL820 Spyder 2. This one has a 2.4-inch VGA resolution display, 5 megapixel rear camera and VGA front facing camera, 1GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 16GB and a 1,200mAh battery. The design of this phone is similar to its younger brother and also gets the same gold and leather treatment.

The third phone - the TL700 - (pictured above) is actually an Android smartphone but unfortunately runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It runs on an unknown Qualcomm processor and has a 3.7-inch 800 x 480 resolution display. There is a 5 megapixel camera on the back and VGA on the front, 4GB internal memory and a 1,400mAh battery. The phone has a gold plated body, sapphire glass coating for the display and crocodile skin back.

Rumor: Nexus 7 tablet pictured in press images

Phone Arena was just sent alleged press images of the upcoming ASUS-Google Nexus 7 tablet. If the images are real, the Nexus 7 will be a three-toned tablet, with a white front to the tablet and a two-toned black and gray backplate. I’m not quite sold on the three-tone look, so here’s hoping the Nexus 7 will come in two color schemes (white and black/gray) similar to other Android tablets. Sources for Phone Arena confirmed that the device will in fact feature a Tegra 3 processor, and that the tablet would launch with Android 4.1, commonly believed to be the launch version number for Jelly Bean.

From the press shots, we noticed that the Nexus Tablet features a speaker on the front of the device, a common placement for speakers on phones as opposed to tablets, where speakers are normally located on tablets. This speaker location leads us to believe that the Nexus Tablet will likely be able to make phone calls using Google Voice or other VOIP services. If not, having a speaker on the front of the device still makes sense to us, as it tends to result in better sound output.

We should be learning more about the Nexus Tablet at Google I/O at the end of this month, with a widespread launch slated for July. The Nexus Tablet is expected to retail in the $150-$250 range to take on the Kindle Fire and a rumored 7? iPad that could be launching later this year. Stay tuned for updates.
