Motorola unveils dual-core XT760 for China

Motorola introduced yet another Android smartphone for the Chinese market. Called Motorola XT760, the new droid is built around a 4" qHD screen and a 1GHz dual-core CPU of unknown architecture.
The mid-range Motorola XT760 comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support and dual-band 3G with HSPA. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a camera on either side of its chassis. The main snapper at the back can capture 8 MP stills and 1080p video, while the front-facing shooter is limited to VGA resolution.

The Motorola XT760 comes with 768MB of RAM and 2GB of built-in storage with microSD card slot for expanding that by up to 32GB. Local connectivity is well covered with Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 HS, a 3.5mm audio jack and an HDMI port.
Motorola XT760 is available from authorized Motorola resellers across China starting today, but its pricing hasn't been confirmed by the official Motorola press release. There's also nothing on the potential release of the smartphone in other markets.

Samsung outs a dual-touchscreen Android flip phone for China

Samsung has announced yet another dual-touchscreen Android flip phone, this time exclusively for China's second largest carrier China Unicom.

Carrying the GT-B9120 moniker, the peculiar Android flip phone is practically the same as the previously announced dual-SIM Samsung W999. It features two 3.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreens with a resolution of 480x800 pixels each. Inside, there's a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage.

The GT-B9120 runs Android 2.3 Gingebread and features HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The back of the phone carries a decent 5MP snapper, while a 1.3MP front-facing camera takes care of video chats.

It's currently unclear when exactly China Unicom will put the device for sale and for what price, but expect it soon. It's a pity Samsung won't launch the unusual droid anywhere else. One can still hope, though.

China approves Google and Motorola Mobility merger

Three months following US and EU approval, China has given Google's Motorola acquisition the green light.

Now that all of the regulatory red tape has been removed, Google say that the deal will be finalized on their end by early next week. Such a quick timeframe indicates that this was indeed the last barrier that Google needed to overcome in order to finalize things, having already received joint approval from the European Union and US Department of Justice back in February.

The $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility is said to give Google access to close to 17,000 mobile patents, which should give them ample ammunition in the legal battles they are currently embroiled in with Apple.

One condition that China stipulated in its approval was for Google to guarantee free access to the Android operating system for at least the next five years, although we hardly see them charging for it anytime in the near future.
